Muybridge revisited

This is one small painting in the series leading up to an animation. The human figure and animal heads are taken from Muybridge’s photography I have had in the studio for the last few years. I like the fact that in the end the animation will pass rapidly, yet the knowledge of these being paintings (holding the ideal of painting in general- that they are each supposed to be individual, realised and alone sustainable) which cannot be pondered upon (if people do these days anyway?).

Besides that, it will run smoothly and with its mythological animal head swapping, it will look mad.

This note pad paper was soaked in linseed oil and hung to dry. This was to prime it (hopefully) so rot wouldn’t occur (when your work is finally in the museums, resting for a couple hundreds years : )
